Slovakia the new ‘promised land’.
I don’t know whether I should be appalled or just laugh outrageously. Ynet News reports 100 Palestinian refugees from Iraq will be settled in Slovakia.
Nearly one hundred Palestinians who spent the last six years stranded between Iraq and Syria will be moved temporarily to Slovakia, pending resettlement elsewhere, the United Nations refugee agency said on Tuesday. The 98 refugees, who were living in “appalling conditions” in makeshift camps near the desert border, will be housed in northeastern Slovakia from August, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said. I do not think you could find a country in the European Union with a more appalling human rights record against the Roma than the Slovakians, and quite frankly, most Palestinians resemble the Roma far more than your average Slovakian. I actually feel quite sorry for this lot and what’s in store for them in Slovakia – especially if they come with the hope of seeking an education for their children outside of the nefarious ‘special schools’.
