A stiff necked people

Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement, starts at sunset tonight. In the days leading up to Yom Kippur Jews attempt to reconcile with their fellow men. At sunset, begins the reconciliation with G-d. So in spirit of this coming day, I wanted to share one of my favourite photographs. I lost all the references and details of this photograph so whoever the photographer is; I must ask forgiveness for my carelessness and lack of credit where it is so richly due.

This is ironic because I keep this image on my cellphone wall paper. I have been drawing this picture for months off and on, and when I am ready, I will attempt to paint what I see that has captures my attention in such a gut wrenching way. I’ll probably do a number of versions and I may never get it right. What is almost impossible to see is that the Rebbe is reciting Tehillim, he’s probably recited it a million times, and yet, he is paying attention as if it was his first time. I humbled by his fidelity.

To the unknown Rebbe, I ask forgiveness for my careless and a blessing for all who are lost.
