But can we get a fatwa for this?

A Saudi cleric has urged the Saudi government to call for a travel ban for all Saudis seeking to travel to the US reports Zwaya which just might make air travel to the US more palatable again.

Riyadh Noted Saudi Islamic preacher Shaikh Sulaiman Al Dowaish has urged the Saudi authorities to explore the prospect of imposing a ban on travel to the US if the latter sticks to its decision to undergo an ‘enhanced screening’ of passengers from Saudi Arabia.

The new US regulations have triggered widespread outrage and anger among Saudi citizens. Speaking to reporters, Saudi Da’awa worker Al Dowaish said that the new discriminatory security regulations introduced by the US authorities will infringe the religious rights of Saudi citizens as the new security screening will expose their private parts. “If they stick to continuing such type of screening tests, then the [Saudi] authorities should resort to a travel ban,” he said adding that a society cannot be punished altogether for the faults committed by one or two of its members.

Speaking to Gulf News, Saudi security researcher Sultan Al Anqari blasted the new US regulation, saying it was a sort of political blackmailing by the US administration against the Kingdom for the latter’s position against unjust practices of Israel. “It is part of a collective punishment against the Saudis, who are also victims of the wrong doing of some deviant people,” he said.

As much as I can get behind the travel fatwa I find myself reluctantly agreeing – abet partially – with Sutlan Al Anqari. No one should be punished for the wrong doing of some deviant people. Of course, how Saudi Arabia can be singled out when 14 other Arab nations are subject to the same screening procedures, but either way; it has nothing to do with Saudi’s position on Israel and everything to do with the nationality of the 19 hijacks who used planes to attack the Americans…until the Israelis bomb the Pentagon or New York – we can’t be even steven.
