Fuck you, Lawrence Cannon

and your American Cossack foreign policy agenda. The Globe and Mail.

Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon is taking a harder line against Israel’s controversial decision to build settlements in East Jerusalem and now says he condemns the plan. That’s the strongest language to date by a Conservative cabinet minister against Israel. It comes in response to an Israeli plan to build 1,600 new apartments in a Jewish neighbourhood in disputed East Jerusalem.

What’s next from this putz – Canadian soldiers are dying in Afghanistan because a Jew builds a home in Jerusalem or goes to daven at Churva Synagogue? Just one of the many reasons I have nothing but contempt for the Harper styled conservatives – is the no-talent loons who he consistently stacks in his cabinet with.

    now, now, kateland. calm down.

the tories are our friends. even if i was wasn’t a dyed in the wool tory, i’d still vote tory. a rotation of power between parties is an absolute essential for the health of a democracy.

as to mr. cannon’s criticism, i take that with a grain of salt. can u imagine a government more aligned with israel? you can’t cuz there isn’t any. since the tories assumed office, canada’s record has been stellar when it comes to israel.

do you remember canada’s reaction to israel’s purported use of fake passports? there wasn’t any as far as i can recall.

this is a safe issue for the government to criticize israel on cuz there is no practical impact. this way the gov’t can say to it’s critics “see, we’re not marching in step with israel etc etc”

“Stellar” – I think not but considering the competition – a fair point. Look, we are not talking about condemning ’settlement’ activity in just anywhere but in Jerusalem – the heart of Zion. Although telling a Jew he can’t build a home in a place which historically called Judea does take a special kind of chutzpah as well….and Cannon has issued statements of this kind before – he has a history of it.

If Canada was a ‘real’ friend, it wouldn’t attempt to dictate or condemn just because everyone else is but to seek to understand instead. Israel has more than enough fair-weather friends. I see absolutely no value in the gov’t being able to say to its critics ‘we are not marching in step with Israel’ as if Israel is some shitty little country where one should be innately ashamed of following, supporting or being referred to as Israel’s friend.

And just why shouldn’t I object to whatever asinine statements the government comes out with just because its “Tory”. An ass is an ass and I recognize no different between assholery. Furthemore, I am appalled that the Tories continue to offer military support and training to the Palestinian Authority and fail to see how training the next generation of Jew killer’s makes us a friend to the Israeli state.

fair enuf. i understnad yr point and even agree with it but we’re talking real world politics here and there the tories have stepped up to the plate

but the tories, out of genuine conviction(at least on the part of Stephen Harper) have made the choice to side with israel where it really counts at the UN etc. this is to their electoral disadvantage. there are a lot more muslim votes in canada now than jewish ones.

this is far better than the Liberals morally vacuous even handedness.

btw i’m not banging the tory drum because i’m a tory. i think my judgement of their actions is pretty objective.
